Mölndal Energi och Stella Futura har tillsammans installerat ett 100 kW batteri som nu står på Riskulla i Mölndal. Batteriet ägs av Stella Futura och deltar på den lokala flexmarknaden Effekthandel Väst. Sedan 31 januari 2024 levererar batteriet även på stödtjänstmarknaderna FCR-D upp och FCR-D ned.
Mölndal Energi and Stella Futura have together installed a 100 kW battery that is now located in Riskulla, Mölndal. The battery is owned by Stella Futura and participates in the local flexibility market Effekthandel Väst. Since January 31, 2024, the battery also provides services on the support service markets FCR-D up and FCR-D down. The battery will also enable Mölndal Energi's customers to sell support services through them.
As the share of wind and solar electricity increases in Sweden and all of Northern Europe, flexible electricity consumption and production become increasingly important. The more flexibility we have in the electricity grid, the better the opportunities for industries to develop and expand without having to wait for time-consuming expansion of the electricity grid. Effekthandel Väst is one of Sweden's first local marketplaces for flexibility where Stella Futura's battery has now been integrated to support the local grid. Flexible electricity consumption is about shifting electricity consumption away from times when the electricity system is most strained to times when consumption is lower. For industries, it can mean reducing production during times or periods when the demand for electricity is high and instead increasing production when demand is lower. This enables a relatively smaller and more cost-effective electricity system.
Now, Mölndal Energi, in collaboration with Stella Futura, has installed a battery that participates in Effekthandel Väst as well as the support service markets FCR-D up and FCR-D down. Stella Futura calls this combination of the battery's benefits Service Stacking. CheckWatt handles the control of the battery, and the trades are executed with the help of Volue.

In order to participate in the support service market, one needs to be pre-qualified first. This was done during the autumn of 2023. On January 31, 2024, the first bids were placed on FCR-D and only ten minutes later, the battery contributed by delivering electricity to the grid. Thanks to the pre-qualification, a trading pot was opened up on FCR-D down and FCR-D up, and therefore, there is the opportunity to trade with more batteries than the one built through aggregation of Mölndal Energi's electricity trading customers' batteries.
Stella Futura now owns one of the first batteries to be integrated into Effekthandel Väst in Mölndal Energi's electricity grid. By connecting the battery to Effekthandel Väst, local businesses can sell capacity by temporarily reducing their electricity consumption, alternatively increasing their electricity production, or transferring electricity to the battery to reduce the load on the grid. Grid operators buy the capacity to protect the grid when the load is expected to be high. In this project, we combine the battery's participation in Effekthandel Väst with aggregation against Svenska Kraftnäts balancing market, thus creating a new version of our service stacking. We believe in creating long-term sustainable battery businesses behind the meter by combining several different benefits in the operation of our battery systems.
