New battery solutions enables resolving future challenges in the electricity grid.
Battery systems contributes to increasing the reliability of the power supply while allowing clients to reduce their costs and increase their self-sufficiency. By controlling the use of the systems, known as Service Stacking, we optimize the value of the battery installation for the client.
The energy system in southern Sweden faces great challenges in balancing the demand and supply of electricity in a time of rapidly increasing electrification combined with increased production and use of renewable energy. Skåne region is currently Europe's most imbalanced area with a self-sufficiency rate of only 15%. In order to develop business and society, resilience and self-sufficiency in the Skåne energy system need to increase.
To meet these challenges and increase the reliability of the power supply, Kraftringen has signed a cooperation agreement with battery systems integrator Stella Futura.
- With a significant increase in solar and wind power production in our southern Swedish region, the need for efficient energy storage and flexible system services has become increasingly evident. With future battery solutions, Kraftringen wants to enable both storage of surplus electricity during periods of high production and utilization of electricity during periods of high demand, says Martin Eldsmark, Head of Product and Project, Customer and Energy Solutions Business Area, Kraftringen.
The agreement involves cooperation on battery systems to better combine the benefits of renewable energy sources such as solar or wind and store energy when it is not being used.
- Battery systems provide our customers with the opportunity to reduce costs and increase self-sufficiency. Battery systems also allow Kraftringen to more effectively manage peak loads and offer new system/flexibility services to our customers, says Martin Eldsmark.
The cooperation on battery system solutions enables Kraftringen to further strengthen the investments made in renewable electricity production. Kraftringen aims to add an additional 250 GWh of renewable electricity to the Skåne power grid by 2030. In connection with this, battery systems are seen as a natural part, both through grid balancing and management of local peak loads together with the support service market.
- Stella Futura has many years of experience in the design and integration of battery systems in the Swedish market. Creating the most value from the systems is about knowing what to use the batteries for at any given moment. What we call Service Stacking with battery storage. In this way, we create long-term sustainable business models in energy storage, says Ulrika Tornerefelt, CEO and Founder of Stella Futura.
